What is Gen Z Bible Stories & Why I Love Gen Z Bible Stories

I have to admit, when I first saw the videos of Gen Z Bible Stories, I was skeptical. I thought they were making fun of the Bible and disrespecting God’s word. But as I watched more of them, I realized that they were actually doing the opposite. They were making the Bible more accessible and engaging for young people, while also providing a fresh and funny perspective on the ancient texts.

As a Christian, I grew up reading the Bible and learning about its stories. But over time, I became bored and detached from it. I felt like the Bible was irrelevant and outdated for my generation. I couldn’t relate to the characters, the language, or the culture of the biblical times. I also struggled with some of the hard questions and contradictions that the Bible raised.

But when I watched the videos of Gen Z Bible Stories, I felt a spark of interest and curiosity. I wanted to know more about the stories and the people behind them. I wanted to see how they connected to my own life and the world around me. I wanted to laugh and cry and wonder and worship with them.

So I decided to give the Bible another chance. I downloaded the [Bible Gateway] app, where I could access different versions and translations of the Bible for free. I also bought the book The Gospel by Gen Z, which I found to be a great companion to the original text. I started reading the Bible again, but this time, with a new lens and a new attitude.

How Gen Z Bible Stories Changed My View of the Bible

As I read the Bible along with the Gen Z Bible Stories, I noticed some amazing things. Here are some of them:

What is Gen Z Bible Stories

The Bible is not boring

It is full of drama, action, romance, comedy, tragedy, and mystery. It has everything that makes a good story. It also has some of the most memorable and iconic characters, scenes, and quotes in history.

For example, one of my favorite Gen Z Bible stories is the creation and the fall of man (Genesis 1-3). It is the first and the most important story in the Bible, as it sets the stage for everything else. It tells us how God created the world and everything in it, how He made humans in His image and gave them dominion over the earth, how He placed them in a perfect garden and gave them one rule to follow, how a sneaky snake tempted them to break that rule and eat the forbidden fruit, how they realized they were naked and hid from God, how God confronted them and cursed them and the snake, and how He banished them from the garden and put an angel with a flaming sword to guard it.

That’s a lot of drama in just three chapters! And the Gen Z Bible story version makes it even more entertaining and relatable, with emojis, slang, and pop culture references.

Here’s a snippet of it:

God: I made you a garden. It’s lit af. You can eat anything you want. Except that tree. Don’t touch that tree.

Adam: Bet.

Eve: Bet.

Snake: Psst. Hey. You wanna eat that tree?

Eve: Nah. God said no.

Snake: God is just jealous. He doesn’t want you to be like Him. Trust me. It’s good.

Eve: Hmm. Okay.

Adam: Okay.

eats fruit

Eve: Oh snap. We’re naked.

Adam: Oh snap. We’re naked.

hides

God: Where are you?

Adam: We’re hiding.

God: Why?

Adam: We’re naked.

God: How do you know?

Eve: The snake told us.

God: Bruh.

curses everyone

kicks them out

puts angel with sword to guard garden

The Bible is not irrelevant

It is full of timeless truths and universal themes that apply to every generation and every culture. It speaks to our deepest needs, desires, fears, and hopes. It shows us who God is, who we are, and what our purpose is. It also reveals God’s plan of salvation and restoration for the world, through His Son Jesus Christ. For example, the story of the creation and the fall of man (Genesis 1-3) teaches us some important lessons.

It teaches us that God is the creator and the ruler of everything, that He is good and loving and generous, that He wants to have a relationship with us, and that He gives us free will and responsibility. It also teaches us that we are made in God’s image and likeness, that we are valuable and special and unique, that we have a role and a mission to take care of the earth, and that we are meant to live in harmony with God, ourselves, each other, and nature.

It also teaches us that we are sinful and rebellious and disobedient, that we are easily deceived and tempted by evil, that we are ashamed and afraid and guilty, and that we are separated from God and His blessings. It also teaches us that God is not indifferent or cruel or vengeful, that He is merciful and gracious and compassionate, that He still loves us and cares for us, and that He has a plan to redeem us and restore us to Him.

The Bible is not outdated

It is full of wisdom and guidance and inspiration that can help us navigate the challenges and opportunities of our times. It can help us make sense of the complex and confusing issues that we face in our personal and social lives. It can also help us grow in our faith and character and maturity.

It can also help us discover and develop our gifts and talents and passions. For example, the story of the creation and the fall of man (Genesis 1-3) can help us with some of the questions and problems that we encounter today. It can help us understand the origin and the meaning of life, the value and the dignity of human beings, the role and the stewardship of the environment, the nature and the consequences of sin, the need and the possibility of forgiveness, the hope and the promise of salvation, and the love and the grace of God.
